Mr. David Markley is a graduate of Valparaiso University where he received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree. While there he sang with the Concert Choir and the University Chorale under Eldon Balko, Marcia Lewis and Christopher Cock. He studied voice with Ralph Klapis and Christopher Cock, Organ Performance with Martin Jean, and conducting with Dennis Friesen-Carper. He was also active in the University Theatre having acted and conducted in several mainstage productions. Mr. Markley was active in the Chapel at VU playing for Morning Prayer and was the co-director for the worship and praise team Dayspring. Mr. Markley has also performed recently with Laudate, the Valparaiso University Bach Choir, and the Vocal Camerata Ensemble. Mr. Markley has also worked extensively with community theatre companies in productions of Bye,Bye Birdie, Into the Woods, The Pajama Game, The Music Man, and Ragtime serving as Vocal Director and/or Music Director. Mr. Markley was recently nominated by the Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theatre Foundation for outstanding Vocal Direction in the musical Into the Woods at the Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso . In addition to his school and theatre work, Mr. Markley is the Minister of Music and Organist at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Highland . His professional memberships include: MENC, IMEA, ACDA, ICDA, and the AGO. Mr. Markley has served as the Highland Theatre Company Sponsor, mainstage director for Pippin, Carousel, and The Odd Couple as well as music director for Annie, Oklahoma, Little Shop of Horrors, The Pajama Game, and South Pacific. He has also served as chair of the School Improvement Team (PL221) at Highland High School . Mr. Markley is the 2004 Crystal Apple Award recipient for excellence in teaching as well as a recipient of the "Realizing the Dream" Lilly endowment professional development grant.
